          AA3: Collaborative annotation services

          Co-Annotea

          AA3 Report [PDF 3,207Kb]

Co-Annotea was developed as part of the AA3 DART workpackage. This work package focuses on tools to support collaborative annotations by groups of users either asynchronously or in real-time through application sharing. Written in C# (.NET Framework 2.0) as a standalone application, it allows distributed users to annotate content asynchronously and collaboratively, and to share these annotations. Users may annotate 3D crystallography files through an embedded JMOL player, and other web content such as PDF through an embedded Internet Explorer. They can also watch the content synchronously using application sharing tools such as VNC.

          Example interface usage

The client application is host to the AnnoteaSidebar, as well as the Internet Explorer web browser and displays the JMol browser within this. It allows linking of all of these components within a unified interface. It also allows displaying of multiple documents and/or JMol viewers within the same window for easy comparisons.
