          Annotation and Assessment (AA)

AA1: Researchers to annotate each other’s work.

The main focus of this project is the development of a secure collaborative crystallography annotation system for collaborators within eResearch. An essential requirement for such a sector is the need to be able to authenticate the source of the annotation and to restrict access to a particular group of trusted colleagues - for reasons of privacy, confidentiality or protection of intellectual property. AA2: Allow end-user control over annotation to improve deposit rates

The Secure Annotation Server was developed as part of the AA2 DART workpackage. The goal of the AA2 workpackage is to allow end user control over who can annotate what, and who can access those annotations. To this end, this project has involved modifying Annotea to allow Shibboleth and XACML integration, as well as developing client tools to use the sever for annotation creations, viewing and management. AA3: Collaborative annotation services

This work package focuses on tools to support collaborative annotations by groups of users either asynchronously or in real-time through application sharing. Written in C# (.NET Framework 2.0) as a standalone application, it allows distributed users to annotate content asynchronously and collaboratively, and to share these annotations. More

          AA4: Wiki-based collaborative work practices.

An agile software development model was followed in the implementation of this work package. As the work package team developed the skills in Plone and the requirements of the DART project and other potential users became evident, several portals were established using Plone to test the effectiveness of the tools.
