          Contents and Rights (CR)

CR1: Move data from personal to secure alternatives

The purpose of Work Package CR1 has been to critically examine those aspects of current research practice that might deter researchers from using the new e-Research frameworks such as DART, and so impede their development. Such aspects could include perceptions of loss of control over data, increased work loads or increased bureaucracy in research management. More

CR2: Reduce barriers to content acquisition for non-science researchers

The Creative Commons rights-assignment tool is being developed as part of the DART project. The goal of the CR2 work package is to reduce barriers to content acquisition by providing more rights options for non-science researchers such as Creative Commons copyright. More

CR3: Reduce barriers to content acquisition for science researchers

The Science Commons tool is being developed as part of the CR3 DART workpackage. It aims to reduce barriers to content acquisition by providing more rights options for science researchers. It applies Science Commons work to scientific research data and results, focusing on the Publishing area. It develops software that enables the attachment of standardized Creative Commons (CC) licenses. More

CR4: Improve information management practice in research communities

The primary objective of CR4 was to develop information management best practice by embedding information management professionals into research teams. The Work Package began with this focus in its initial stages by analysing the current system of a specific Demonstrator (X-ray Crystallography), with a view to enhancing the system with information management best practice guidelines. CR5: Make it as easy as possible for researchers to deposit datasets and other digital objects into institutional repositories

The primary objective of DART Work Package CR5 is to “make it as easy as possible for researchers to deposit datasets and other digital objects into institutional repositories”. More

CR6: Clarifying legal issues to improve content deposits

The Content and Rights work package (CR6) forms one of a number of work packages that comprise the Dataset Acquisition, Accessibility, and Annotation e-Research Technologies Project (DART). The aim of work package CR6 is ‘to improve content deposit rates by clarifying legal issues around intellectual property, information security and privacy.’ More
